Things Happening At The High Lonesome Ranch

Happenings at The High Lonesome Ranch

There’s always plenty going on at the Ranch. We hope you enjoyed the recent holiday as much as we did.

The Town of De Beque hosted a charming hometown celebration with live music, cookout, and parade featuring some Harley enthusiasts, local 4-H members on horseback, the little league team, the local salon, and town law enforcement.

Staff recently went out to explore one of the many trails on the Ranch. The Pine Gulch fire has crafted a very new landscape on much of the property, but the majesty we enjoy sharing with everyone that visits remains.

Little Blue (who is not so little) perks his ears before catching up to the others.

The High Lonesome Ranch is pleased to introduce two of our team members keeping our Regenerative Agriculture Vision on track. Meet our Livestock & Agricultural Manager, Dakota Glueck and our Assistant Livestock & Agricultural Manager, Melissa Makous. Go out with them and you’ll learn any number of things from native grasses to bovine socialization.

Slow living is easier at the Ranch. We work hard, but we also stop to watch the fish rising.

Melissa laughs as she points out some recent additions to the herd who she’s dubbed the “Mountain Mammas” referring to John Denver’s song “Take Me Home, Country Roads”. They were purchased locally for their familiarity with the terrain of the Valley and will show other members of the herd brought in from flatland areas of the States how to safely navigate the inclines and slopes of the Rocky Mountains. Raising awareness and intentional action by folks like Dakota, Melissa, and you are how we can safeguard the Land and those precious experiences to be had here for posterity in perpetuity.

Thank you for joining us on this trail of conservation.
