New General Manager, Kevin Watt, Joins the Ranch!
The High Lonesome Ranch and its’ Board of Directors are pleased to announce that Kevin Watt is joining the Ranch as our new General Manager.
As General Manager, Kevin will help lead and support the HLR team in its operations in Livestock & Agriculture and the growing regenerative agriculture practices the Ranch is undertaking to care for the nearly 225,000 acres of deeded and permitted lands while providing guests with an unparalleled experience with the many activities on offer.
Most recently Kevin was employed in varying roles at TomKat Ranch, California, including as Land & Livestock Manager collaborating closely with owners, conservation scientists, and public agencies demonstrating the positive impacts of managing livestock to improve land productivity, wildlife habitats, promote soil carbon sequestration, improve land resiliency to fire and drought. Kevin and his family moved to Western Colorado in 2018 where he continued work for TomKat spreading regenerative livestock agriculture practices through education, research, policy, and finance. During that time he also spent weekends as a hospice chaplain for HopeWest, serving the rural communities around De Beque and the Roan Plateau Valley, and learning about this area’s special agricultural heritage.
Previously, Kevin worked at Polyface Farm, Virginia where he was trained in multi-species regenerative grazing by farmer/author, Joel Salatin. Kevin and his wife started Early Bird Ranch in Pescadero, California producing pasture-raised chickens, turkeys, ducks, rabbits, and pigs using an innovative cooperative grazing plan and lease with TomKat Ranch.
