Wing Shooting at High Lonesome
|
|
|
The High Lonesome Ranch wing shooting experience takes place in the spectacular setting of the Colorado Rockies western slope. With private and permitted lands totaling over 200 square miles, wing shooters have an almost endless array of hunting lands to choose from.
The ranch property ranges in elevation from 5000 to 9200 feet above sea level providing diverse covers in which to hunt. From rich valley bottoms covered with grain to wooded hillsides to mountain slopes, we hunt a variety of terrain. Wheat and rye fields create a fertile environment for our birds and the creek bottoms and sagebrush flats supply ample cover.
Pheasant, chukar, Hungarian partridge and native blue grouse are found throughout the ranch in abundant numbers. We supplement the natural reproduction of birds on the ranch with the release of mature adults.
Each hunter is entitled to normally harvest up to 10 birds daily. Additional birds are available for a nominal fee.
Guides
The High Lonesome Ranch provides only experienced guides who personalize your wing shooting experience based on your hunting skills and desired goals. Each guide has been individually selected based on his hunting skills, safety consciousness, demeanor, dog handling skills and terrain knowledge. We do our best to match client and guide to maximize your pleasure by producing an unrivaled hunting experience that meets your expectations. You'll improve your visit by telling us exactly what kind of hunt you want.
 Dogs
We typically run retrievers on the ranch, a hardy dependable breed that works industriously all day. However, should you wish to bring your favorite four-legged companion, we understand completely and have kennels available.
 Season
The wing shooting season at the High Lonesome Ranch runs from September through March 1. Located as we are on the western slope, our mild winters allow us comfortable hunting. No 20° below zero days here. Little snow falls on the ranch at lower elevations making it easy to hunt pheasant, chukar and hun right through until early spring.
Cast & Blast
For those torn between fly rod and shotgun, we offer a fall Cast and Blast special. Spend half the day fly-fishing and the other half bird hunting. This ever popular package is available from September through October, and even into November depending on the weather.
 Sporting Clays
If you'd like to tune up your bird shooting skills or have a friendly wager with your friends, try our new sporting clays facility. This well-equipped center provides a challenging five-stand clays course with pheasant walk and a nearby professional 300-yard rifle and pistol range. You can watch your friends or just relax in the adjacent cozy cabin.
No License Needed
Since the ranch is licensed as a commercial wildlife park, you do not need a hunting license to hunt pheasant, chukar or Hungarian partridge. We have a modest pro shop at the ranch that can supply many of your shooting needs including shotgun rental.
